๐ Devotional on John 9:31–41 | "Now That You Claim You Can See"
๐️ From Physical Sight to Spiritual Vision — Faith Meets Worship
๐ Scripture: John 9:31–41 (NIV)
31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.
32 Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind.
33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."
34 To this they replied, "You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!" And they threw him out.
35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"
36 "Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him."
37 Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you."
38 Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.
39 Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind."
40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, "What? Are we blind too?"
41 Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains."
๐ง 1. Opening Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to see You not only physically but spiritually. Help me move beyond religion into relationship. I want to see and worship You with faith. Amen.
๐ 2. Repeated Words or Phrases
- “See / Seen / Blind” – vv. 37, 39, 40, 41
- “Believe” – vv. 35, 36, 38
- “Sin / Guilt” – vv. 34, 41
- “Worshiped” – v. 38
๐ฏ 3. Theme
Jesus opens not just physical eyes, but spiritual eyes that lead to worship and faith.
๐️ 4. Observing God
- God listens to those who do His will (v.31).
- Jesus seeks out the rejected and reveals Himself (v.35–37).
- He receives worship and affirms the man’s faith (v.38).
- Jesus brings judgment—not to condemn, but to reveal hearts (v.39).
- He confronts spiritual pride and hidden guilt (v.41).
๐ง 5. Observing Humanity
- The man healed from blindness boldly defends Jesus (vv.31–33).
- The Pharisees reject his witness and throw him out (v.34).
- The man openly expresses faith and worships Jesus (v.38).
- The Pharisees react with self-righteousness and denial (vv.40–41).
๐ก 6. Interpreting God
Jesus reveals Himself personally to those who have been cast out by religion. He is the Good Shepherd who finds the lost and opens eyes to the truth. Worship flows naturally from those who see Jesus as He is—the Son of Man, the Savior. But His light also exposes the pride of those who think they already “see.” God's judgment isn’t just future; it begins now in how people respond to Jesus.
๐ง 7. Interpreting Humanity
Spiritual blindness is not about lack of information but refusal to admit need. The healed man embraces the truth he receives and grows in understanding, ending in worship. The Pharisees, though educated and devout, reject that same truth because it threatens their pride. Their claim to “see” becomes their condemnation. Real faith admits blindness and trusts Jesus to open the eyes.
๐ช 8. Application
Am I truly seeing, or am I only claiming to see? Do I humble myself before the Lord, or defend my pride like the Pharisees? Like the man born blind, I want to say, “Lord, I believe,” and live a life of worship. Today, I will ask Jesus not just for understanding—but for spiritual sight.
๐ 9. Spiritual Touch
“Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.” (John 9:38)
๐ 10. Closing Prayer
Jesus, I confess my blindness and ask You to open my eyes. Help me see You and worship You in truth. Keep me from pride and guide me to humility, faith, and gratitude for the grace You’ve given me.
๐ฟ 11. Live It Today
Pause today and ask: Am I seeing Jesus clearly? End your day with worship, just as the healed man did—with simple, pure faith in the Son of Man.
