📖 Full Scripture (NIV)

11 for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.

12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.

13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the king of Israel!"

14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

15 "Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt."

16 At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.

17 Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.

18 Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him.

19 So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!"

20 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival.

Lord Jesus, open my eyes today to recognize You as the true King. Let me welcome You not just with words, but with a heart surrendered to Your will. Amen.

Jesus fulfills prophecy by riding a donkey (v.14–15).

His mission draws both Jews and Gentiles (v.20).
God’s plan includes moments of misunderstanding that will make sense after glory is revealed (v.16).

Many believe because of Lazarus’s resurrection (v.11).
The crowds rejoice and celebrate Jesus with palm branches (v.12–13).

✝️ 6. Interpreting God

God’s Messiah enters not on a war horse but on a donkey—a symbol of peace. The people shout praise, but Jesus walks a path to the cross. His glory is misunderstood, but it will be revealed. God’s plan includes both Israel and the nations. The image of Jesus riding into Jerusalem is both majestic and tragic, filled with prophecy and destiny.

👥 7. Interpreting Humanity

People follow Jesus for different reasons—miracles, hope, curiosity. Some rejoice, some misunderstand, some resist. Even His disciples don’t fully see. The Pharisees reveal how power fears truth. But even outsiders, like the Greeks, are being drawn to the true King. Humanity is diverse in response, but the call is universal: to believe and follow.

🪞 8. Personal Application

Am I welcoming Jesus for who He is—or who I want Him to be? Do I praise Him in celebration but flee when the cost comes? I will receive Him as the humble King, trust His timing, and walk with Him beyond the crowd’s approval. I want to be one who seeks Him like the Greeks, with sincere worship.

— Jesus comes not to conquer by force, but to save in peace. I welcome Him today into every area of my life.

Jesus, You are my King. I repent for the times I have praised You without understanding or followed You for shallow reasons. Teach me to know You more deeply and trust You beyond the crowd. I surrender to Your gentle and true rule. Amen.

May this be true in my life—not just words from others, but the reality of my heart. Let the world see that I follow Jesus.
