๐ John 11:1-10 Devotional - Walking in the Light of Christ
๐ Full Scripture (NIV)
1 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
2 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.)
3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick."
4 When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it."
5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
6 So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days,
7 and then he said to his disciples, "Let us go back to Judea."
8 "But Rabbi," they said, "a short while ago the Jews there tried to stone you, and yet you are going back?"
9 Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this world’s light.
10 It is when a person walks at night that they stumble, for they have no light."

- He delays intentionally, showing divine purpose in timing (v.6).

- The disciples are fearful (v.8).
- Humans stumble in darkness (v.10).
- They do not fully understand divine timing (v.6).
✝️ 6. Interpreting God
Jesus reveals His love in unexpected ways. Though He delays, it is not due to indifference but a desire to display the Father's glory. His actions are deliberate, always rooted in a higher purpose. Even when we fear, He moves forward in courage and truth. He reminds us that in His light, we have direction and safety.
๐ฅ 7. Interpreting Humanity
We want immediate relief and struggle with delays. Our fear of danger often outweighs our trust in divine calling. Like the disciples, we hesitate to follow Jesus when risks are involved. But our stumbling often comes from walking without His light. In our limited understanding, we need to trust that Jesus leads us in truth.
๐ช 8. Personal Application
Where have I misunderstood Jesus’ timing? Today, I’m reminded that He delays not to punish, but to reveal greater glory. I will trust in His timing and walk in His light, even when the path looks uncertain. His love is constant, even in delay.
๐ 9. Spiritual Touch
“Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this world’s light.” (John 11:9)
— This word speaks assurance to those walking uncertain paths: stay in His light and you will not fall.
๐ 10. Prayer of Faith, Repentance & Thanksgiving
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your perfect love and perfect timing. Forgive me for doubting You when things delay. Help me trust that all things are working for Your glory. Keep me walking in Your light today. Amen.
๐ฟ 11. Meditate Throughout the Day
John 11:4 – “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”
Meditate on this throughout the day, trusting that your situation is not the end—it is part of God’s greater story.
